"This slab is dedicated to the Memory of JAMES SANDERS Esq,
who was born in N.C. Oct 1764 & died in Sumner Cty. Ten. 24 Augt 1836. He was a good husband a kind parent an honest man. He enjoyed the confidence of all his neighbors. He loved virtue for its own sake & hated vice for it deformity. There was none more ready to do a good act or condemn a mean one.
Peace be to his ashes."
